YOU SHOWED UP!
Auntie ABATE’s heart is just bursting with pride these days and it’s not just ‘cause it was Valentine’s Day! YOU SHOWED UP!!! Showed up for what you say? Showed up 4 times, yes, 4 times in February to support ABATE of Wisconsin and motorcycling in this great state! It’s not easy to get so many members to Officers Training, but we did and boy did we learn a lot! That’s a lot of knowledge to take back to our regions and get everyone fired up all over the state. Not only that, but on February 3rd there was a public Assembly hearing on legislation about letting Level 4 and Level 5 autonomous vehicles test on the roads of Wisconsin. Level 4 mode means that a vehicle can travel in autonomous mode with a person in the car…not necessarily with hands on the wheel. A different twist to the meaning of backseat driving don’t you think? Level 5 mode lets a vehicle onto our roadways with no person in the car at all! Is that safe? Do those vehicles SEE motorcycles? Not sure. We have not been given any proof of this by testing done by the manufacturers. Should Wisconsinites foot the bill for manufacturers testing their technology on our roads? I think not. Next there was a similar hearing on this same legislation on the Senate side. That took place on February 12th. Again, WE SHOWED UP!! Did it make a difference? You bet it did…to the tune of the media interviewing Steve Panten about what we are worried about. We certainly filled those hearing rooms with a lot of black leather.
After that came Lobby Day. Again, WE SHOWED UP and visited every single Legislator’s Office with information that we wanted to share with them and to ask for their help in getting our legislative agenda accomplished. Did they listen? Yes, they did and we look forward to working with them in the future.
You did it, members of ABATE of Wisconsin! You SHOWED UP, but our work isn’t done. Stay active in your regions and stay vigilant when it comes to our freedom on the road.
