REMINDER. NO OCTOBER MEETING for 1J. Hello, 1Janiacs! Ready for another local ABATE update? Here are some of the thoughts, ideas, and comments from our September meeting.

It's back to work time for our lawmakers in Madison. We are hopeful that our pending legislative proposals will land in fertile ground this fall. Watch your media for legislative updates, calls to action, and public hearing dates. If you can spare a day this fall, consider going to Madison to show ABATE support at a public hearing. Sometimes the usual suspects have conflicting schedules and it’s nice to have new faces to fill in. You don't have to speak. Registering in favor of our bills is easy and important. Someone there will help you if it’s your first time.

Our first discussion centered on NHSTA's decision to cancel the Motorcycle advisory council or MAC. This board was created by Congress November 2021 and was to convene within 90 days. Nominations didn't begin until 2023, and selection began in 2024. Less than 1 year later, with no meetings, the Agency sent cancellation notices out. Get the feeling your government safety organizations don't care about you? We need to seriously get busy waking up our fellow riders and non-members to this fact.

Tesla has finally been held partially at fault in a collision of their product from 2019. A person allowing the vehicle to drive itself plowed into a parked car at 60 mph. The person assumed the car would not allow this event to occur, apparently.

We had a visit from a potential new member, Charles. He was invited to attend our meeting to describe his traffic accident/crash at the hands of an aggressive driver. Charles described how the aggressive driver swerved across a double yellow line at him. After turning around to get the vehicle's plate number to report the behavior, as a responsible citizen should, he was rear-ended by the driver. We will try and follow up with this case and encourage anyone who can to attend the next hearing at the Kenosha County Courthouse Oct. 7 at 8:30 am.

Rich gave us an update from Illinois. Looks like there will finally be some rider training courses next year in the northern part of the state. Government fell down and hurt all motorcyclists, down under, and ABATE of Illinois got it fixed! Well done.

If you are interested in an overnight fall region ride, please call me to be put on the list. If we can get something planned before the snow flies, I will let ya know.

Let's stay Free in the Wind.

 Mike
