Budgeting
The Summer Hummer Committee is now in the process of budgeting for the 2026 event.
Our Finance Committee Chair, Paul Vita, has asked that the budget be submitted to him prior to the September Board Meeting, so we are busy sharpening our pencils to see how we can improve our bottom line. The easiest way, of course, is to have more people attend. That’s where our members and word of mouth come in. The Hummer is an expensive event to host, and the committee has to come up with educated guesses on costs, attendance, etc., in order to turn a projected profit. In an ideal world, we would come up with a conservative budget and experience a higher-than-usual attendance. That would give us a great bottom line. While we did make a good profit in 2025, let’s strive to make Hummer 2026 even better, and as I said, that means greater attendance.
Worm has already lined up several bands for next summer, but until we know what our final budget looks like, we can’t sign any contracts yet, so he isn’t making any announcements at this time.
One area that could definitely use some help is first aid. If you are an EMT, Nurse, or MD and would like to lend a hand by volunteering for a few shifts, you would not be turned away. Please contact Worm or Betty to be put on the list. We had plenty of coverage for Hummer ’25, but we only had 2 volunteers doing it, which meant they put in a lot of volunteer hours. They basically staffed a three-day event by themselves. Let’s make an effort to help out with first aid.
If anyone has any money-making ideas to bring to the table, please let us know. Many of us attend other fairs, ABATE events, etc., and see activities/games that we may be able to incorporate into our event, so don’t be shy and let us know about them.
The Land Committee is putting together an estimate to erect a Food Court Shelter/Pavilion to permanently replace the temporary white tents we are currently using. This would benefit the Hummer committee by saving time in putting up and taking down the tents, and would definitely be a bonus should a storm rear its ugly head at Hummer time. We all know what devastation higher winds can have on pop-up tents in Greenwood.
Until next month.
Remember to save the date for next year.
