It's In The Books

Summer Hummer 2025 is a thing of the past. For those of you who came out and enjoyed, Thank You. This event takes a lot of planning and volunteerism. It could not be successful without all of your help, from promoting the event to cleaning the toilets or picking up the fire rings. We should have a full report next month once all expenses are in. That will tell us how successful we really were.

True success, however, isn't always making a huge profit. True success is the camaraderie and friendships made at the Hummer or throughout the ABATE calendar year of joint meetings, chili cook-offs and local ABATE booth events. That was proven at the Gate. (Where the cool people hang.) Bill and I have been able to lean on hard workers and great friends to get through another year of gate keeper duties.

It seems that we have some very clever and creative regions out there. That was definitely evident during Saturday's Campsite contest. To encourage extra points from the campsite judges, Region 1H actually performed a small skit to the tune of The Wizard of Oz - costuming, yellow brick road and all, not to mention the Wizard, Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, the Lion, et al. You get my meaning. They took a close 2nd this year beat out by Region 2Ewho set up an official Speakeasy. I heard you needed a secret code for entry. Very clever and costuming was over the top. You've heard of flappers, right? Well, they were there. Congratulations to Region 2E on your win (you definitely set the bar high,) and to every region that participated. As you can guess, fun was had by all. Makes me want to put on my thinking cap for next year's contest.

There is no such thing as a perfect event and ours didn't go off without a hitch either. For one, the people scheduled to run the vibrator races in the bar on Saturday didn't show and Oh, did I forget to mention that the power went out to the midsection of the grounds on Saturday afternoon in the 90+ degree humid heat? Not good for those of us bellied up to the bar wanting to buy cold adult beverages. Had to drink fast before the cans warmed up. Thank goodness the food vendors were still hooked up and it didn't affect the Pavilion with the bands playing. Kudos to the power company. We have some pretty good, quick responsive power company employees who saved the day and restored power within the hour.

There will be a full after event discussion at the July BOD meeting. If anyone has comments or suggestions, please get them to your District Directors to be brought up ath the Hummer committee meeting that day.

So, in a nutshell, we had awesome musical entertainment, great volunteers, a good selecton of vendors (16), delicious food choices, interesting campsites and had the chance to enjoy friends both new and old along the way.

Can't wait 'til next year.

SAVE THE DATE!
