The nation is just emerging from the longest shutdown of the Federal Government in history. Your lawmakers were still in D.C., but they were not thinking about motorcyclists; they were focused on getting enough of Congress on the same page, so we could get back to regular business.
The only business the MRF worked on during this shutdown was re-nominating Jay Jackson of Indiana to the now reconstructed Motorcyclist Advisory Council (MAC). Jay is Vice President of the MRF and a recognized subject expert on rider education and training. He seems like the perfect choice for the MAC seat reserved for a representative of a “motorcyclist foundation,” and we look forward to his being seated.
With the government shutdown over, we now face less time to advance our agenda than we’d originally hoped for. We are also heading into the midterm elections, which will further reduce the time available. We should expect bills to start advancing again, and there will be Calls to Action. You can also expect your lawmakers to be campaigning for your votes. That is the perfect time for you to ask questions regarding their position on our agenda and to inform them of the motorcycling subjects we know best.
