There are many events going on in Wisconsin during the summer months. It’s important that we use these opportunities to introduce people to ABATE of Wisconsin and let them know the challenges motorcyclists are facing and also let them know about the steps we are taking to overcome these challenges.
I believe the vast majority of the public - including some motorcyclists - have no idea of what is going on with fuel choice, internal combustion engines, the decline of small repair shops and the right to repair, etc. If we don’t get the word out, ask yourself who is? This isn’t the time to think the other guy is going to do it.
We have many great tools available for you to use, so when you take part in a community event you will make a good impression. We have great visual easy-up tents with back drops customized with ABATE information printed on them. We also have signs explaining our issues as well as handouts to get the attention of people passing by. All of this is available to you. The great thing about this marketing set up is that it only takes two or three people at any event to make a very impressive display. When you get everything set up you are going to step back, take a look and be very proud to be a member of ABATE.
I have used this set up at many events and have always been proud of our “booth.” It looks great. Talk to your regional rep. to go about getting one. They can get you the information that you need to get started. Remember you don’t need to attend just motorcycle events. All events that you go to are good events that will spread the word about our issues. One of the future events a lot of regions are planning on going to is “National Night Out” (to build police and community relationships.)
So, get out there, spread the word, and let people know what is going on. A lot of what we talk about affects people in all walks of life. And, while you’re at it, don’t forget to sign up a few new members, then be their buddy and show them the ropes. Make sure they become invested and involved.
By the way, it’s election season. Get to know your politicians and find out what they support. Volunteer and let them know we are here and ready to help with their campaigns, not just as bikers, but as members of the community.
So, be proud to be an ABATE member. Get out there and show them who we are. Good luck.
I Got Mine, Did You?
