Are You My Buddy?
Let’s try something different. Although we have been talking about mentoring for years, we don’t seem to be captivating our new members in a way that makes them stick around. How about giving this a try? When a member signs up in your region assign an existing member to be their “Buddy.” This means they start a direct contact via phone calls. Call the new member before each meeting. Do they want to meet up and ride to the meeting? Do they understand what is happening during a meeting and why? Do they know what this event is all about? If not explain it. Do they want to stick around after the meeting for lunch? Do they know what Lobby Day is all about? Be their partner for that day. Do they understand the background of the organization? Their “Buddy” could be their lifeline when new. Before you know it you will strike up a good life-long friendship and those are sometimes hard to come by. And if you don’t you will have at least shown someone the ropes. Don’t be a hard aXX. Just be a Buddy! This idea will be discussed in further detail at Officer’s Training.
And speaking of meetings, this year is election year. How about stepping up to the plate and becoming an officer? Good info will be brought back to your region from those who are attending Officer Training in a few weeks. Ask them a few questions and see if it interests you.
Election information will be listed in this newsletter starting in March. Think about it, Buddy.
