The Power of Face-to-Face Recruitment

Nowadays, our members tend to rely on their digital devices - phones, computers, etc., for membership recruitment. Those are great tools, but there is nothing better than recruiting face-to-face. Meeting people in person with direct conversation will build trust and a relationship that could last a long time. Face-to-face conversations will let you read body language and gauge potential members’ interest in our organization right away. By recruiting this way, we are able to immediately see what interests that person has and can introduce ABATE of Wisconsin to them in a way that will show them how they can benefit by joining. For example, if the person you approach is into Legislation, we can let them know about Lobby Day, or if they like music, we can explain how our Summer Hummer event might be something they would like to go to. By doing this, we can create a sense of community involvement with ABATE of Wisconsin from the start and could encourage them to form a strong bond with us from the get-go.

Then, after they commit and become a member, keep them engaged. Call them up to let them know when the next meeting is. Ask them to join a committee on a fundraising project and invite them to join your group rides. Ask them for input at your regional meetings, and don’t forget to introduce them and include them whenever you can.
