ABATE of Wisconsin - Region 1H
(Washington County)
Meetings: 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm at the American Legion Post 522, 3590 N Shore Drive, Hubertus, WI. 53033
Steve reports that Governor Evers vetoed SB184 – the bill intended to protect all fuel sources. While this outcome was expected, it is still disappointing.
Steve reminded members that Lobby Day is on February 17th, 2026, where we will focus on the Right to Repair bill and continue our work to protect fuel sources. The legislative session will end in March 2026.
Dog thanked Jim, Brenda, and Julie for their help at the Information Booth at Hilltop Haven in October.
Julie states that new products are here. Please see abatewis.org and click on the word “Clothing” to see what is available. If there is sufficient interest, Julie would consider a road trip to pick up a combined order to save us the shipping costs.
The Hartford Christmas Parade was on Saturday, November 8th. We enjoyed a great turn-out with 9 motorcycles and seven walkers to pass out candy and American flags. We appreciate Cherie & Duane Frey for the parade preparations and post-parade festivities! Luckily, the flurries held off until after the parade. Thanks to everyone who came for the parade on this chilly fall day!
At the November meeting, Region Representative Michelle Nusbaum presented Region 1H Member Ralph Schneider with the 2025 Fisheree Award from this year’s annual meeting. We are all proud of Ralph and impressed by his commitment to motorcycle safety!
Bill Schmitz thanked all members who helped with this year’s Adopt-a-Highway Clean Up. He notes that we have just completed our 15th year!
Our Christmas Party will be at our regular meeting time on December 10th. Please remember to bring a dish to pass (party snack, appetizer, dessert), non-perishable food items for our Food Pantry collection, and a friend who may be interested in joining ABATE!
For a great start to 2026, Hogman has asked us to save the date for the 17th Annual “Freeze Your Nips & Nuts” ride on January 1st.
Michelle reminded members to continue considering campsite themes for the 2026 Summer Hummer. We agreed to vote for our theme at the January meeting.
Cherie has tickets for the statewide Sweetheart Cash Raffle to be held on February 8th at Officer Training in Marshfield. Tickets are two for $5. Prizes awarded will be 1st - $1000, 2nd - $500, 3rd - $250. All money and ticket stubs must be turned in by the January meeting so they can be submitted on time.
Julie has offered to help organize a Region 1H/1F social outing with mini duckpin bowling at the Thirsty Duck in Sussex in January – specific date to be determined. This is not a fundraising event – just a gathering of friends to have some fun!
Please consider attending the 15th Annual Randy & Janine Memorial to be held on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, at Nuckleheadz (3680 County Hwy NN, West Bend). The proceeds have been and will continue to be donated to ABATE to support awareness activities. For those who are not familiar, Randy and Janine lost their lives when hit by a driver who committed a right-of-way violation. We are seeking donations of prizes/gift baskets and volunteers to help run the event.
Save the date for our Chili Cook-Off on March 28, 2026, at the VFW in West Bend. Details to come.
Mary and Brenda are stepping down from their roles as co-event coordinators. Please consider taking on this essential role – alone or with a friend!
Finally, Wisconsin is the host of the 2026 MRF - Meeting of the Minds, and Region 1H will be responsible for the Hospitality Room. For those of you who like to schedule far in advance, the dates are September 24th to 27th, 2026, and the event will be held at the Sheraton Milwaukee-Brookfield.
Members are invited to bring gently used ABATE and biker clothing items, such as shirts, sweatshirts, hats, etc., to monthly meetings for the purpose of selling, swapping, or giving away to fellow members. This will not be an officially sanctioned activity, but an informal opportunity for members to exchange products. Business must be conducted before and/or after (not during) the meetings.
With our wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy 2026!
Michelle and Cherie
