ABATE of Wisconsin - Region 1H
(Washington County)
Meetings: 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm at the American Legion Post 522, 3590 N Shore Drive, Hubertus, WI. 53033

Region Representative Michelle read a few excerpts from the September newsletter, and encouraged all members to read the entries, articles, and opinion pieces. We may learn something new and find ourselves feeling inspired!

On Steve’s behalf, Michelle reminded all members to respond to the Calls to Action as soon as you see them. If you are not yet signed up to receive the Calls to Action, please see Steve or Michelle so they can show you how.

WI Senate Bill 184 which prohibits state and local government from restricting the use or sale of motor vehicles/devices based on their energy source has passed the Senate and is awaiting a vote by the Assembly.

A Public Hearing on the Right to Repair Bill is hopefully, scheduled for next month, October 2025.

Lobby Day 2026 will be on TUESDAY, February 17, 2026! Save this important date!

Michelle is seeking a couple volunteers to organize a Region 1H/1F social outing with mini duckpin bowling at the Thirsty Duck in Sussex. This is not a fundraising event – just a gathering of friends to have some fun!

Michelle asked members to start thinking about campsite themes for the 2026 Summer Hummer. Let’s get a head start to avoid last-minute preparations!

Despite some scattered showers, Hogman described a memorable day on August 16th when a large group gathered at Highground Veterans Memorial Park in Neillsville. An illustration of the Wisconsin MIA-POW bike (now known as the HERO Bike) was dedicated and the detailed story of this special motorcycle’s history was shared.

Hogman reported a great turnout of 79 motorcycles for the Clubhouse-to-Clubhouse Ride on September 6th. He described cool weather and an enjoyable ride of about 100 miles. A great time was had by all! Thanks to those who organized and participated in the ride to raise money for ABATE!

Julie reports that new ABATE shirts will be available for purchase at the Annual State Meeting, October 10th to 12th. She asked members to share graphics ideas and suggestions for new products with her.

The Summer Long Run Party was held at Traditions Pub and Grill on September 13th. We appreciate everyone who attended and helped run this successful event! We enjoyed beautiful weather and a sizable turnout! The event made a total of $4591.95, very close to the same as this event brought in last year. Our many happy winners include: 1st Prize - $550 – Paul Tuchscherer; 2nd Prize - $500 – Ronald Faucette; 3rd Prize - $450 – Debra Bahn; 4th Prize - $400 – Craig Herbst; 5th Prize - $350 – Brian Utt; 6th Prize - $300 – Jon Dornacher; 7th Prize - $250 – Michelle Jacak; 8th Prize - $200 – Jackie Jacak; 9th Prize - $150 – Sandy Schmitz; 10th Prize - $100 – Michelle Nusbaum; and 11th Prize - $50 – Larry Riche. The 50/50 cash raffle winner of $230 was Jim Anderson. In addition to the cash prizes, attendees went home with MANY raffle baskets and 8 bags of meat!

Boyd has organized a social ride on Saturday, October 4th, starting at Al’s Hideout (1004 Park Avenue, West Bend) at 11:00 am. We will leave promptly at 12:00. This is not an ABATE sanctioned event – just an organized ride with friends. All vehicles are welcome – this ride goes on rain or shine.

We will complete Adopt-a-Highway Clean Up on Sunday, October 19th at 10 am. We meet just east of the intersection of Hwy 83 and Hwy 167 in Erin. Join us to help if you can – many hands make light work for all!

Looking ahead, the Hartford Christmas Parade is on Saturday, November 8th. Members are asked to donate candy to hand out along the parade route. Please bring candy to the October and/or November meetings or with you on the day of the parade. We need ABATE members to participate in the parade on bikes and to walk to hand out the candy and American flags. Cherie and Duane Frey welcome all members to their house for pre-staging between 11 and 1:30 (6864 Arthur Road, Hartford) and to return after the parade. We will leave together around 1:45 for parade staging on Main Street.

Cherie has tickets for the statewide Holiday Cash Raffle to be held on December 14th at Buckley-Baldwin VFW Post #2534 in Wisconsin Rapids. Tickets are two for $5. Prizes awarded will be 1st - $1000, 2nd - $500, 3rd - $250. All money and ticket stubs must be turned in by the November meeting so they can be submitted on time.

Finally, Wisconsin is the host of the 2026 MRF - Meeting of the Minds, and Region 1H will be responsible for the Hospitality Room. For those of you who like to schedule far in advance, the dates are September 24th to 27th, 2026, and the event will be held at the Sheraton Milwaukee-Brookfield.

Members are invited to bring gently used ABATE and biker clothing items, such as shirts, sweatshirts, hats, etc., to monthly meetings for the purpose of selling, swapping, or giving away to fellow members. This will not be an officially sanctioned activity, but an informal opportunity for members to exchange products. Business must be conducted before and/or after (not during) the meetings.

Stay safe and enjoy the colors of the season~

Michelle and Cherie
