ABATE of Wisconsin Region 4A/4B
Next Meeting: Saturday, April 11 at 11 am at Bullheads Bar & Grill in Stevens Point.
The Region 4A/4B meeting was held on March 14th at Hog Creek Bar & Grill. Thank you to Hog Creek for hosting.
The meeting was called to order by Doug Kops. Doug led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and offered prayers for our downed brothers and sisters. The minutes from the February meeting were printed for members to review and were approved as written.
The Treasurer’s report was sent by Char and was approved as read.
Doug thanked everyone for their participation in the successful February events. There was a great turnout at Lobby Day, the Pool & Dart Tournament, and the Wausau Swap Meet.
Denise reported that we have five new members and one renewed member this month. She also shared information about the Buddy Program, which Bill reviewed during officer’s training. The program encourages assigning buddies to new members who will call and invite them to meetings and events to help keep them engaged and involved. A membership drawing was also held. Josh Gluege’s name was drawn, but he was not present, so the prize will carry over to the next meeting.
Legislative Notes: Jesse shared that during the board meeting it was discussed that Calls to Action are still not receiving enough attention. While much of ABATE’s information is shared on the website and Facebook, it was noted that many ABATE members are older and may not use social media regularly. ABATE is also looking to send new participants to Bikers on the Beltway to help get more members involved at the federal level. Jesse also mentioned the upcoming Future of Motorcycling Summit on April 25 and shared a heartfelt story about how times are changing.
Doug announced that Jesse has submitted his candidacy for the District 4 Director position and welcomed everyone’s support.
Jesse shared an idea to have coasters printed for the Portage County Tavern League. It was suggested that we seek a sponsor to help cover the cost of producing the coasters. Our newest member, Brian Pinkstaff, volunteered to be the sponsor. Thank you, Brian! Jan will continue gathering quotes and will work with Brian to move forward with ordering the coasters.
Doug reviewed upcoming events, activities at ABATE Acres, and briefly discussed plans for a ride during the Hummer.
Fundraising: The gun raffle is going well. We would like to thank Mary at Hometown Bar for displaying our first prize gun and for selling a significant number of raffle tickets.
For the May Brat Fry, we will discuss volunteers and bring a sign-up sheet to the April meeting.
For the Fun Run, Jan reviewed the sponsorship letter and registration letters that will be sent out to participating locations.
Additional fundraising ideas were discussed, including holding a meat raffle and possibly bringing back the
Rosholt Bike Fest.
Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held Saturday, April 11 at 11 a.m. at Bullheads Bar & Grill in Stevens Point.
We will have an informal meeting prior to our brat fry on May 2nd in Stratford.
