Hi Members. February 13th was our annual Lobby Day. I met with Sen. Jagler's chief of staff and had a very productive meeting. He was very receptive to the ethanol issue and supported our right to repair. I was accompanied by one of the District 2 members who shared the feeling that the meeting went very well. I then met with the author of LRD-0007/P2 Representative Penterman. He represents the Watertown and surrounding area. Is there a call to action?
He was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable being he started as a staffer in Madison and worked his way up to state representative. I was thoroughly impressed by him. As regional members, you can remember the support we used to have from Rep. Horlacher. I feel that this young man will share, if not exceed, that relationship. It’s been a while since I’ve left the capital feeling as positive for our ABATE issues as I did that Thursday. This year thanks to people stepping up during Officers Training, we were able to cover every office in Madison. I don’t remember if we’ve done that recently but, it was awesome. All in all, it was a great day for 1E and ABATE. A good way to earn your right-to-ride patch would be to email your legislatures and ask them to either sign on to the bill or support it any way they can. Only takes three emails, wow, that’s maybe ten minutes of your time! Pretty easy.
Liz has been so kind as to send me a calendar program so I can get that set up. As soon as it happens it’ll be on our FB page, my FB page, and the District 1 FB page. That way those savvy people can print it out and share it.
Bill Roberge has been working on some possible membership-building incentive programs so I’m sure we’ll hear about those soon. Rocky Fox, the MRF lobbyist, gave us a presentation on where things are nationally and how he maintains the working relationships in Washington. We are currently experimenting with a company that reads every piece of proposed legislation and then relays that info to us if any of it pertains to our issues. This is on a trial basis as of now and will eventually be voted on by the BOD. See you in March.
