District 1 By John Reblin
Hello again - The time is flying by and it's
the middle of May already. The weather is starting
to warm up though not to the March temps we had
and it seems every time we take the bike out it
wants to rain. Here is what is going on in the
district.
We had the district meeting on the 5th of May and
it was very well attended with just about all the
seats filled and some standing during the meeting.
Topics talked about were getting legislative ideas
sent in to Dave Dwyer about motorcycle specific
issues so that as a board we can start a
legislative agenda for the upcoming year.
Another topic discussed was membership and the
goals set for increasing it. I was lucky enough to
get Ric Mellon down to the meeting and he had
discussed his goal and the reasons behind it. If
we are representing the motorcycle community we
need to have a larger stake of membership. With
more membership come income and more feet on the
marble when we go to the capital and discuss
issues. Talking with members they seem to be
really getting membership increased by talking to
their friends and family to join this great
organization. I am hoping to see all the hair
flying at the State meeting.
Ric also discussed some issues coming down the
road like a tiered type licensing program and
dealing with the boys from the DOT at the MOSAC
(Motorcycle Safety Advisory Council), meetings he
attends. We also discussed the role the CDC is
trying to play in the motorcycling.
Bug, the new Share the Road Coordinator, came down
and also discussed possible changes in the
program, increasing instructors, and
certification.
Pan talked some history of ABATE of Wisconsin and
had a captive audience with his discussion of
Chief Brier and other issues back in the
70's and 80's.
The meeting rolled along and without breaks we
got it done in the 1.5 hour mark. Again I thank
all that attended. One of my goals is to keep you
more informed and to get input from all of you and
this is one way to do it.
My calendar is filling up going to meetings and
events around the district but the one I am really
looking forward to is the Summer Hummer in June
and plans already set for the weekend. Working
with Sally, we have the games lined up and I am
sure every other department is set to play. Also I
hope the raffle tickets are getting sold. I have
mine bought and can really use the first place
prize cash.
