From the ABATE of Wisconsin Election Committee By Dave "Twit" Linberg
District Director Elections - The deadline for
candidacy papers for the ABATE of Wisconsin
District Director Elections has passed. The
profiles from the papers that were submitted are
included in this newsletter, and were also printed
last month. When you look at that section of this
newsletter you will see that only Districts 1, 2,
3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 are represented by candidates.
The ABATE of Wisconsin Constitution and By-laws
allows write-in candidates in ABATE Elections.
What this means to the District Director elections
is that there is still time for district 5 to
elect someone; as well as the chance for some
competition in all the districts. If you would
like to "write in" a candidate, there is a line on
the ballot for you to do so for all the elections.
Voting in the District Director Election will be
by the ballots printed on page 8 of this issue. If
you do not wish to cut up your newsletter or want
to take extra ballots to a meeting, you may make
copies of the ballot form. All members that were
current as of May 31, 2012 are eligible to vote.
You may only vote for one candidate in the
district where you live. See the list of counties
printed with the ballots to confirm which district
to vote in. To be counted your ballot must be
returned to the election address (P.O. Box 813,
Black River Falls, WI 54615, not our state office)
by June 30, 2012. Multiple ballots may be returned
in a single envelope. District Director Election
results will be published in the August
Newsletter.
General State Election - the election process for
the Board of Directors at Large and the state
offices of Executive Director, Deputy Director,
Recording Secretary, Business Agent, and
Membership Director, begins with this issue. Any
two year member of ABATE of Wisconsin is welcomed
to run for any of the positions. Positions up for
election are Executive Director, Deputy Director,
Recording Secretary, Business Agent, Membership
Director, and Board of Directors at Large. If you
would like to see a "job description" of any of
the positions, the positions are described in the
By-laws. Contact the State Office for the
appropriate section to be mailed to you, or ask a
regional officer to see their By-laws (every
Officers' Manual has a copy of the by-laws
included in it.)
Candidacy papers for this election should be sent
to the State Office by July 15, 2012. The
Candidacy Form is printed on page 12 in this
newsletter for your use. Feel free to make a copy
of the form if you do not want to cut up your
newsletter. The profiles will be run in the August
and September issues of the newsletter, and a
ballot for the election will run in the September
and October issues. The general election will be
finalized at this year's State Meeting in October.
It's important that every ABATE of Wisconsin
member takes a good look over the candidates for
the District Director election. The district
directors are the board members seated to
represent the wants and needs of the members in
their districts. Their job, when it comes to ABATE
business is to not only protect the best interests
of ABATE of Wisconsin but to do it in a way that
most accurately reflects the opinions of the
members in their districts. They are your voice on
the board--choose wisely.
