Your Land, Your Party By Roger "Bug" Woodke
June 21-22-23-24, 2012
Greetings Brothers and Sisters of the ABATE family.
Prior to the September BOD meeting the Summer Hummer Committee held
its first official meeting since Hummer 2011. Here's a short
synopsis of what we discussed.
First off, in 2012 the Summer Hummer WILL NOT be on Father's Day
weekend. The dates for 2012 are June 21-24, 2012. That is one week
later than usual, and one weekend after Father's Day.
Judging by the attendance at this years' event, there are many of
you have never been there or possibly even never been to ABATE Acres
(your land.) That my friends is a pity because ABATE Acres is a
wonderful place and the Summer Hummer is a great event.
The vast majority of the feedback committee members received about
this past event was that those who attended had the most fun they had
ever had at The Hummer. Why? Well part of the reason is that as
"Auntie ABATE" says we are one large although somewhat disfunctional
family. We have our strange uncles, sometimes crotchety aunts, high-strung siblings and even those who could be described as
overworked parents. When a crew like this gets together, it is
inevitable that some form of stupid human tricks like events will
ensue with often hilarious results.
If you've never been to this event, ask someone at your regional
meeting who was there this year to describe what they did and what
they saw. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised and eager to pencil
June 21-24, 2012 into your calendar as a "must do" event.
As stated the committee is in the earliest stages of planning for
next year. Two of our department heads have stepped down. Keith
"Smooth" Lefebvre who was vendor coordinator and Ron & Nona
Zepplin who handled the gate. Thank you again from the committee
chairs for all of your hard work. The vendor coordinator position has
already been filled but because I suffer from CRS and didn't write her
name down, at this time I can't tell you who she is. I'll have that
info for you next time. The position of department head in charge of
the gate is open. If you are interested please contact Andy,
Daisy, or me (Bug), and we'll fill you in and welcome you aboard.
We are in the position of considering musical entertainment for
next year. While not 100% it appears as though there will be all new
acts next year and no type of music is being left out. If you know of
a good local band, again contact any of the committee co-chairs.
Finally when you talk to your fellow members who were there and
find out about the shenanigans that go on you just might think it
would be even better with you involved. It WILL be. Some of us (Okay,
a lot of us) are way on the down side of that proverbial hill but
still can party like it's 1982. It just takes extra strength
painkillers to bring us back. Let me issue a challange to the younger
members in our organization: let's see if you can be just as fabulous
at 'stupid human tricks' as us old farts.
Hope to see you all next June.
